Jennifer (Bergstrom) Brenner '83 was a member of the College of St. Catherine swimming and diving team from 1979-1983, and she wasted no time in having a major impact on the program.  As a first-year student-athlete, Brenner was the state champion in the 200 butterfly. She also qualified for the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) national swimming and diving championships in the 100 butterfly. At the national meet Brenner finished fifth in the 100 fly and became the first All-American in St. Kate's school history. Jennifer's other accomplishments during her outstanding freshman season included scoring 307 points during the season, setting ten team records, and being named the team MVP.

Brenner’s dominance in the pool continued throughout her remaining three seasons. In her last three years she won three more state titles, made two more trips to the AIAW National Championships, won 11 more All-America awards.  Another significant note about her career is that as a team captain her senior year, Brenner helped the team make a smooth transition from the AIAW into the NCAA. During that 1982-83 season, she led the team to a seventh place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships.

At the end of her career at St. Kate’s, Brenner's list of athletic achievements easily made her one of the most highly accomplished student-athletes in school history. Her final swimming resume included being a 12- time All-American in individual and relay events, a
four-time individual state champion and a two-time team MVP. She claimed Minnesota state AIAW titles in the 50 Butterfly, the 200 Butterfly and twice in the 100 Butterfly.
