George has career day for Wildcats in sweep of Bethel on Strikeout Cancer Day

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Senior Jenna George had a day hitting two home runs in the Wildcats sweep of the Bethel University Royals on Friday afternoon. The Wildcats improve their overall record to 21-9 and 11-3 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). The third baseman tallied her fourth and fifth home runs against the Royals ranking T-2 in the conference. 

Sophomore Mikayla Grant had an impressive day hitting her first career home run in first game driving in senior Trish Sherman for the final two RBI in the 6-2 win. St. Kate's went on to top the Royals in game two with a final score of 4-3 for the complete sweep. 

Game 1 | St. Catherine 6, Bethel 2
Senior leadoff hitter Anna Hinderaker was first at-bat for the Wildcats hitting a double to left field going onto score the first run of the day as rookie Alex Ehde earned the RBI. Hinderaker is now the program career runs leader which was set in yesterday's game against Hamline at 124. 

After 3.5 innings with zero runs, George hit her fourth home run of the season with junior Amber Montero and rookie Lindsay Burr on base to take the 4-0 lead with 1.5 to play. 

The Royals scored two in the top of the sixth inning when the shortstop homered with one on. 

Grant's first career home run earned St. Kate's the final two runs to take the 6-2 lead in the bottom of the inning. Bethel was unable to cut the deficit in the top of the seventh for a final of 6-2. 

On top of their home runs, George was 2-3 with 3 RBI and 1 run while Grant was 1-3 with 2 RBI and 1 run. 

Sophomore Kathryn Proper (12-6) was in the circle for the Wildcats throwing a complete game. Proper faced 31 at-bats in game one allowing 8 hits, 2 runs and striking out 7.

The Royals were on the board first in game two taking an early 2-0 lead in the top of the opening inning. 

With two outs in the bottom of the second and bases loaded, Burr hit a single to right field to bring in first-year Kaitlyn Backman. Junior catcher, Autumn Mortenson scored the tying run from Hinderaker's single. 

George hit her fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the third for the game to take the 3-2 lead. With the second home run of the day, George set a new program record in career home runs with 22. 

The Royals scored what would go on to be their third and final run of the game in the top of the fifth knotting the game up at 3-3. 

St. Kate's scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh again with a single from Hinderaker to drive in Burr who hit the fence to get on third. 

George was 2-3 in game two with 1 run and 1 RBI plus the record-setting homer. Hinderaker went 2-4 with 2 RBI. 

First-year Annabelle Schutte improved her overall record to 8-3 playing 4.1 innings with 3 runs on 8 hits. Proper pitched the final 2.2 innings striking out 3. 

The Wildcats return to St. Kate's Field tomorrow against Saint Mary's for Senior Day. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the recognition ceremony taking place following game one.
