ST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University hockey (7-9-1, 3-6-1 MIAC) team has a lot going for it right now. In its last game, the team upset the University of St. Thomas 2-1 to get back in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) playoff picture. In order to stay there, though, the Wildcats need to carry their winning momentum over to this weekend's series against St. Olaf College (4-12, 3-7 MIAC).
St. Kate's will open the series in Northfield, Minnesota Friday night, with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop against St. Olaf. Then, the Wildcats will return home on Saturday to host the Oles at 5 p.m. in Drake Arena.
Video will be available for Friday night's game at St. Olaf, and
live stats will be available during Saturday's game. Score updates will also be made on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats).
Here are the five things to know before this weekend's series between the Wildcats and Oles:
7 – St. Kate's currently has seven points in MIAC play, thanks to wins over Bethel, Concordia, and St. Thomas. That puts the Wildcats in seventh place in the conference standings, just outside the playoff picture. St. Olaf is currently in eighth place with six points.
8 – In the last five years, St. Kate's has won eight of 10 games against the Oles. In each of those wins, the Wildcats scored an average of 3.1 goals per game and scored 31 total.
13 – Senior captain
Jordan Solheim (Thief River Falls, Minn. / Thief River Falls) has a league and team leading 13 assists this season. That number is a career-high for Solheim, who is also tied for fifth in the league with 17 points.
46 – In last Saturday's win over St. Thomas, junior goalie
Kristen Pechacek (Park Falls, Wis. / Chequamegon) faced 46 shots and made 45 saves. In the last two weeks, Pechacek has faced 92 shots and allowed just four goals, bringing her save percentage against MIAC opponents up to .948.
2 –
Cassie Thomas (Northfield, Minn. / Northfield) has two goals this season and both have been game winners. Thomas scored the game winning goal in the Wildcats 3-2 upset of No. 7 Lake Forest at the beginning of the year and then scored the game winner against St. Thomas on Saturday.
