MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team faced a tough road test Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 2 Augsburg University in MIAC play. The decisive 6-0 loss to the Auggies knocks St. Kate's to 9-12 on the season.
Augsburg struck early on special teams, scoring twice on the power play in the opening period. They added two more at even strength late in the second to extend the margin to 4-0 heading into the final frame.
St. Kate's generated chances throughout the day, finishing with 23 shots, including an 11-shot second period, but Augsburg turned aside every attempt to record the shutout.
In the net for the Wildcats,
Lea Grassia made 27 saves while the balance of the team blocked 27 shots to limit second chances in front of the crease.
The Wildcats return to Drake Arena on Friday, February 13 hosting Hamline University at 7 pm.
