MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine swim team holds onto first place after day two of the MIAC Swimming and Diving Championship at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Four program records were set on Thursday along with three MIAC and meet records, and multiple NCAA qualifying standards.
Senior
Maggie Menso set a program record, MIAC record, and meet record in the 500-yard freestyle finishing with a finals time of 4:51.21, which is a NCAA B qualifying standard along with a 2019 selection time. Rookie
Emma Svendsen was the runner-up behind Menso with a lifetime best finish of 5:05.79 and sophomore
Sammi Friedrich finished third with a lifetime best 5:07.33. The fourth place time of 5:12.73 belonged to junior
Andrea Voelker rounding out the top-four times in the event.
It was a similar story for the Wildcats in the 200-yard individual medley with senior
Jordyn Wentzel collecting a MIAC record, program record, meet record, and an NCAA A qualifying time of 1:59.47. St. Kate's claimed second, third, and seventh in the finals heat with senior
Hannah Svendsen earning an NCAA B qualifying time of 2:05.78, a lifetime best for the All-American. Junior
Annie Voss was third with a finish of 2:05.86, another NCAA B qualifying time, and sophomore
Anneke van Oosterom. Sophomore
Hannah Wetzel also competed in the event finishing with a preliminary trials time of 2:27.20.
Senior
Macy Klein reset her own program record in the 50-yard freestyle claiming first with a time of 23.35. Her lifetime best finals time was also an NCAA 2019 selection time. Sophomore
Brenna Bartell appeared in the finals event along with Klein finishing 16th with a time of 25.22. Rookies
Laney Schwieters and
Mia Hocking made their MIAC Championship debut in the prelims of the 50-yard freestyle coming in 22nd and 30th, respectively.
The Wildcats closed out the second day setting another program, MIAC and meet record, this time in the 400-yard medley relay led by senior
Amelia Baxley with a split of 58.52 in the backstroke. Wentzel swam the breaststroke with a split of 1:00.65 followed by E. Svendsen with the butterfly and Klein the final Wildcat on the relay team swimming the freestyle. The recording setting team finished with an NCAA 2019 selection time of 3:46.83.
St. Kate's returns to the pool for day three of prelims at 10:30 am Friday with finals scheduled for 6:30 pm.
