ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Catherine University softball opened the 2019 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Softball Playoff Championships against Hamline University on Friday evening at the University of St. Thomas. The Wildcats dropped game one to the Pipers in seven innings 7-0 and will play the St. Olaf College Oles on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm.
The Pipers were on the board first scoring a run in the top of the opening inning. The Wildcats' defense held the Pipers off until the top of the fifth when Hamline hit a home run with one player on base to go up 3-0. Hamline's final four runs all happened in the top of the seventh.
St. Catherine and St. Olaf will take the field at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in an elimination game. At 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, the winner of the elimination contest will matchup with the loser of the 11:00 a.m. game between St. Thomas and Hamline, with a spot in the Championship on the line.
The championship game is set for Sunday at 11 a.m., with a second game – if necessary – immediately following. The winner of the MIAC Softball Playoffs will receive the conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament.
