Softball marks end of season with loss to St. Olaf in MIAC Playoffs

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Catherine University softball team finished an impressive season with an overall record of 26-14 after falling to St. Olaf College 4-1 in the elimination game of the 2019 MIAC Softball Playoffs on Saturday afternoon. 

After sweeping the Oles in the regular season with 8-0 games, St. Kate's was unable to top them for a third time.

Senior Anna Hinderaker had the Wildcats lone run of the season finale crossing the plate off an error by the Oles third baseman in the top of the first inning. The Oles scored two-runs to open the inning for a score of 2-1 after one. 

The Oles tallied their final two runs in the top of the 2nd inning with both teams remaining scoreless to end the game 4-1. 

Sophomore Kathryn Proper started in the circle for St. Kate's collecting the loss after allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. Proper was hit in the face in the opening inning and ultimately relieved by rookie Annabelle Schutte pitching the remainder of the game. Schutte allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, striking out four.

Follow sophomore Mikayla Grant tallied a double for the Wildcats going 1-3 as the cleanup hitter.
