NORMAL, Ill. -- The No. 11 ranked St. Catherine University golf team earned the second place team finish along with a fifth place team finish at the Illinois Wesleyan University Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling at Ironwood Golf Course. St. Kate's had four individuals in the top-ten led by first-year
Macey Martin shooting a career low 70 (-2) to finish as the tournament runner-up and
Kyra Venne also shooting a two under par 70 to finish fourth.
Martin carded four birdies on Sunday lead the Wildcats second team with an overall score of 625 (+49). Venne shaved six strokes from her round one total leading St. Kate's first team to a round of 295 for a 36-hole team score of 598. Martin and Venne led the way over the weekend each finishing with a tournament best seven birdies in addition to Venne's eagle on the seventh hole today.
Morgan Anderson was behind Venne finishing T5 with a two-day score of 147 after shooting 75 (+3) on Sunday.
Grace Petzold rounded out the top-ten finishing tied for ninth shooting 74 (+2) for an overall 150.
Jaycee Rhodes improved two strokes carding a round of 77 (+5) tied for 23rd and
Katie Reeves shot 76 (+4) to finish T28.
Behind Martin on the Wildcats second team was
Emma Almquist improving by two on Sunday with a five over par 77 to tie with Rhodes in 23rd.
Paige Hillman improved by three strokes with a 79 (+7) finishing T38 and
Emmie Verhaagh finished with a 36-hole score of 165 finishing T55.
St. Kate's will compete in the St. Olaf tournament on April 27 and 28 at Willingers Golf Club in Northfield.
