ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - Game one of the St. Catherine University softball conference season opener against the College of Saint Benedict Bennies went in favor of the home team as the Wildcats fell 13-4 to their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foes. Due to inclement weather in St. Joseph, the second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed as the temperature and field conditions were unplayable per the MIAC Weather Policy. The game will be played at the College of Saint Benedict at on a date and time yet to be determined.

St. Catherine opened the game against the Bennies taking an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Senior left fielder
Anna Hinderaker was the first at bat for the Wildcats with a double to start things off. Junior center fielder
Amber Montero drove Hinderaker in scoring the Wildcats first run of the inning.
Senior third baseman
Jenna George found herself on third base after a single to right field and an error from the Bennies. George's at bat brought in Montero on an unearned run to take the 2-0 lead. The last run for St. Kate's in the top of the first inning was the result of sophomore
Alyssa Wicks' single hit for the RBI bringing George in and the three-run lead.
St. Kate's held the lead for much of the game until the Bennies picked things up in the bottom of the fourth inning. After scoring one in the first inning and another in the bottom of the third, Saint Ben's took a two-run lead scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Wildcats' allowed four more runs for the Bennies in the bottom of the fifth inning before the the game was halted due to weather. After an hour delay, the game commenced with first-year
Lindsay Burr at bat. Burr struck-out before senior
Trish Sherman hit a solo home run for what would be St. Catherine's final run of the game. The Bennies closed out the game in the bottom of the sixth inning adding four to the final score.
The now 10-7 Wildcats are 0-1 in the MIAC opening the home season in a conference matchup with Hamline University on Wednesday, April 3. The conference doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30 & 5:30 p.m. at St. Kate's Field on the campus of St. Catherine University.
