Hockey opens MIAC play at Concordia

MOORHEAD, MINN. – It's a big weekend for the St. Catherine University hockey team. After two weeks of nonconference play, the Wildcats open Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play with a two game series against the Concordia College Cobbers Friday and Saturday in Moorhead, Minnesota.

St. Kate's will try to snap a two game losing skid in the series opener against Concordia Friday evening. Despite tough defensive play, the Wildcats were swept by UW-Superior last weekend, losing by scores of 5-2 and 2-1. St. Kate's will also look to open conference play with a MIAC sweep for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

Fans who can't make the trip to Moorhead can watch the Wildcats online via live stats and video. Score updates can also be found on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats).

Here are the five things to know before St. Kate's MIAC opener at Concordia:

2 – The Wildcats will play two games against the Cobbers over the upcoming weekend. The first game will start at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Moorhead Sports Hockey Arena, and the second will start at 2 p.m. Saturday in the same location.

7 – St. Kate's scored seven goals in its series against Concordia last season, one of the team's highest scoring MIAC series of the 2016-17 season. The Wildcats scored a season high six goals in a 6-2 win to open the series. Unfortunately, the Cobbers outshot and outscored the Wildcats in the second game of the series, winning by a final score of 2-1 on Saturday.

4Brede Postier (Dodge Center, Minn. / Hamline) has made quite the impression in her first two weeks with St. Kate's. The junior transfer leads the team in points (4) this season with two goals and two assists in three games this season. Postier scored the first goal of the season in the Wildcats season opener against Finlandia and scored the lone goal in St. Kate's 2-1 loss to UW-Superior last Saturday.

3 – Postier is one of three juniors leading the offensive attack for the Wildcats this season. Laken Muller (Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Simley) and Tori Thompson (Rochester, Minn. / John Marshall) join Postier as leaders in offensive categories. Muller leads St. Kate's in shots (14), while Thompson is the team's top scoring defenseman with one goal and two assists in three games.

4 – The Wildcats have scored the majority of their goals in the second period of games this season. Of the six goals St. Kate's has scored this season, four have been scored in the second period.
