ST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University hockey team could not have asked for a better start to the 2016-17 season. The Wildcats split their opening series against Lake Forest College, upsetting the No. 9 ranked team 3-2 in Sunday afternoon's game.
This weekend, St. Kate's will play in its first road game of the season with a home-and-home series against the University of Wisconsin Superior. The Wildcats will play at the Yellow Jackets home rink at 7 p.m. Friday night before returning to Drake Arena to host the team Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Both games will stream online via live stats, and video will be available when St. Kate's travels to UW-Superior. Score updates will also be made on the Wildcats official Twitter account (@stkateswildcats).
Here are the five facts to know before St. Kate's takes on UW-Superior this weekend:

Alex Pederson (Park Rapids, Minn. / Park Rapids) scored the Wildcats first goal of the season at 7:09 in the first period in Saturday evening's game against Lake Forest.
Morgan Tentis (Victoria, Minn. / Chanhassen) and
Tori Thompson (Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) assisted on the goal, which was also St. Kate's first power play goal of the season.
6 – The last time St. Kate's beat a ranked opponent was six years ago in January of 2010. The Wildcats upset then ranked No. 8 Gustavus Adolphus College 2-1 in St. Peter, Minnesota thanks to a third period goal from Cassie Rooney. When St. Kate's defeated the Foresters 3-2 in overtime on Sunday, Lake Forest was the No. 9 ranked team in the country.
2 – Thompson's goal in the second period of Sunday's game against the Foresters was the first goal scored by a defender in over two seasons. Thompson hit a one time from the blue line off a pass from
Natalie West (Appleton, Wis. / Appleton) to put the Wildcats up 2-1 over Lake Forest.

Cassie Thomas' (Northfield, Minn. / Northfield) overtime goal was the second game-winner of her career. Her first game winner, and career goal, came in a win over St. Olaf her sophomore season. In that game, Thomas hit a shorthanded goal midway five minutes into the second period to help the Wildcats beat the Oles 3-0.
0 – After giving up three power play goals to the Foresters Saturday evening, St. Kate's did not surrender a single one in Sunday afternoon's game, despite taking penalties in the first two periods.
