Hockey skates to a 2-2 draw vs. St. Mary's

The Wildcats battled through all of regulation and overtime to end up with a draw Friday night at Mariucci Arena against St. Mary's.  St. Kate's was the first to get on the board when Ashley Grell scored on assist from Kayla Clafton and Hallie Paschke at 12:37 in the 1st period.  Less than two minutes later, St. Mary's would even the score on an even strength goal by Haley Coolsaet. The first would end in a 1-1 tie with St. Kate's being outshot by the Cardinals 10-9.

The second period was highlighted by some great goal-tending and both schools peppering 12 shots on goal.  St. Mary's would add a second goal to take the lead at 8:07.  With time winding down, Rachael Gasperetti would even the score again, assisted by Katie Jirik.  The second period would end tied 2-2.

Much of the third period and overtime were spend in the Wildcat's defensive end. St. Kate's struggled to get things going as St. Mary's outshot the Wildcats 14-7 in the third and 4-0 in overtime. 

With the tie St. Kate's moves to 3-1-1 and St. Mary's is 2-2-3

St. Kate's is back in action tomorrow afternoon in Winona at 4:00 p.m.
