After a scoreless first and second period and outshooting Augsburg 45-14, the Wildcats lose their home opener 3-1 at Ridder Arena on Friday night. St. Kate's outshot the Auggies 12-3 in the first period and 24-5 in the second, but neither team could get the puck in the net. The scoring started 4:51 into the third period when Augsburg slipped one past St. Kate's freshman goalie,
Haley Morningstar. They would add a second just over 3 mintues later, which would be all they needed to ice the win.
The Wildcats would get on the board with 7:06 remaining when
Megan Killmer scored on assist from
Kasey Evans. Unfortunately, that was all the offense St. Kate's could muster.
The statistics were lop-sided in every aspect favoring St. Kate's, except the score. In addition to the shot differential, the Wildcats had more power play opportunities (5) than Augsburg (2) and the Wildcats won 37 of the 63 faceoffs in the game.
St. Kate's is back in action Saturday at 5:00 p.m. when they travel to Augsburg and attempt to even the score.
