Hockey finishes solid weekend with a 1-1 tie at Gustavus

The Wildcats' encore performance Saturday was almost as sweet as Friday night's game against Gustavus Adolphus. St. Kate's skated to a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon in another stellar effort.

Just like last night, all of the scoring happened in the second period. SCU's Michaela Michaelson netted the first and only goal of the game for the Wildcats at 6:06 in the second period.

With time running out in the second period, Gustavus found the net with the game tying goal at 17:09. The teams then battled to a scoreless third period and overtime.

"Mel had a great weekend" said head coach Brad Marshall following the game. "This is exactly what we needed, a weekend where we needed to work hard for our points."  One thing they certainly did is work. The Gusties out shot St. Kate's 69-37 on the weekend. That stat in and of itself shows how big of an impact SCU's goalie Mel Gerten had in the two games.  Stopping 67 of those in standout fashion.

St. Kate's is back on the ice again Friday night against Bethel University in Inver Grove Heights.
