The St. Kate's hockey team traveled to Winona for the first game of their weekend series with St. Mary's and came up with a 2-2 tie. The tie brings the Wildcats to 4-0-1 in the conference.
SCU jumped out to lead in the game with a goal at 17:46 in the first period from
Cassie Rooney. Less than two minutes later St. Mary's tied the game, which is how the first period would end.
After a scoreless second period the teams battled for the upper hand and the tie was broken with less than 5 minutes left in regulation by the Cardinals. The Wildcats fought through to tie it up once again with 44 seconds remaining when
Katie Lawler found the net on assist from
Cassie Rooney.
"The good thing is we kept playing. We didn't quit and feel sorry for ourselves," said coach
Brad Marshall, whose team faces off against St. Mary's again Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Ridder Arena. "It's a tough place to play, it wasn't our best effort, and we get out of town with a point and stay on top of the league. Hopefully we can get some early energy tomorrow at home."
