LA VERNE, Calif. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team closed out their time in California going 1-1 with a 3-1 victory over St. John Fisher University before falling to University of La Verne 3-0.
In the Wildcats first match on Saturday, St. Kate's came out strong taking set one 25-13. St. John Fisher rallied back taking set two 25-21 before St. Kate's posted second 25-13 set win. The Wildcats secured the win with a set score of 25-21.
Lexie Petrick recorded her first double-double of the season with 15 digs and 12 kills while adding two block assists and one ace.
Lucia Neuman and
Claire Segner each had three aces in the match and
Brenna Essig added two. Segner and Essig added 13 digs each to the box score while Neuman had 11.
The final match posed to be a challenge with La Verne hitting .330 holding the wildcats to a .204 hitting percentage. The Leopards also posted 10 aces in the match while outdigging the Wildcats 44 to 32.
Maggie Rosen led the Wildcats offensively with ten kills and
Madison Fagan had seven. Rookie
Ella Rustand handed out 16 assists in the match while Petrick had nine digs.
St. Kate's faces Edgewood College on Friday, September 8 at 7 pm playing at the Augsburg University. They will go on to face University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Lakeland University the following day again both played at Augsburg.
