ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team recorded a 3-1 victory over the visiting Saints from the College of St. Scholastica on Friday evening at Butler Center. The win puts St. Kate's at 14-7 with an MIAC record of 6-3 with two regular season conference matches remaining.
Junior
Lexie Petrick tallied a team best eleven digs in four sets while adding seven digs, two blocks, and two aces. Sophomore
Liz Rosen led in digs with 17 with five kills and also securing a match high four aces, serving for eleven straight points in the fourth set.
Maggie Rosen added nine kills and four blocks including two solo blocks also in the fourth set.
Madison Fagan also had four blocks on the night tying L. Rosen for kills with five. Another notable performance came from sophomore pinhitter
Mallory Johnson who tallied seven kills with an outstanding .500 attack percentage.
The Wildcats dominated play for the first two sets maintaining the lead throughout. St. Kate's took the first set 25-18 before cruising to a quick 6-0 lead in the second set and securing it 25-13. Set three belonged to the Saints though getting ahead right away. St. Kate's knotted it up in the middle of the set but could finish falling 25-21. Set four started off slow but quickly turned around as L. Rosen was up to serve at 13-8. Rosen served the Wildcats to 24-8 before the Saints could halt her run getting their final point and turning it back to the Wildcats to pick up the win.
St. Catherine travels to Northfield to face Carleton College on Saturday at 7 pm. St. Kate's will return to Butler Center for Senior Day against Gustavus on Friday, November 3.
