WINONA, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team earned a three-set sweep over the Saint Mary's University Cardinals in Winona on Friday evening. The win advances St. Catherine to 13-6 and 5-2 in the MIAC.
Senior
Maggie Rosen led the Wildcats with nine kills hitting .350 while also picking up two digs.
Madison Fagan and
Lexie Petrick tallied eight kills each. Sophomore
Mallory Johnson was just behind with seven kills with a match high .583 hitting percentage.
The first set started slow for St. Catherine before
Brenna Essig went on a five point run at the service line going up 16-13. The Wildcats maintained the lead from there on out taking set one 25-19.
Set two started with an early 6-1 lead carrying the momentum from the last set. The Cardinals rallied back to knot it at 14-14 but the Wildcats held them to just four more points taking set two 25-18.
Set three was off to a quick lead for St. Kate's again with Essig going on a four-point run early. Saint Mary's wasn't able to come back this time though with St. Kate's running away with the set 25-16.
The Wildcats return to play on Saturday traveling to Bethel University for a 7 pm match against the Royals.
