Hockey returns to MIAC play against St. Olaf

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University hockey team is back in Minnesota. After a trip out east, the Wildcats return to their home in St. Paul for their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) series of 2018.

St. Kate's will take on St. Olaf College in a home-and-home series this Friday and Saturday. The Wildcats will host the visiting Oles at 7:30 p.m. Friday night before traveling to Northfield, Minnesota for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday.

Live stats will be available for Friday evening's game at Drake Arena, while fans can watch live video for Saturday's 3 p.m. puck drop in Northfield. Score updates can also be found on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats).

Here are the five things to know before Friday's puck drop:

1st – First year forward Emilee Anderson (Chanhassen, Minn. / Chanhassen) scored the first goal of her collegiate career in St. Kate's 2-1 loss to Sacred Heart last weekend. Anderson also broke the Wildcats five-game scoreless streak and scored the team's first goal of 2018.

5 – The Oles have been one of the top teams on the power play this season, especially against MIAC opponents. So far this season, St. Olaf has scored five power play goals against conference opponents, the fourth highest total in the MIAC. The team has scored nine power-play goals overall, which ranks sixth in the conference.

89.3 – While the Oles have one of the top power plays in the conference, St. Kate's has one of the top penalty kills in the MIAC. The Wildcats have spent 126 minutes in the penalty box this season and have killed 89.3% of their opponent's power play opportunities. That number is third in the MIAC.

2019 – St. Olaf recently found out that it will be playing in a new facility in two seasons, as the athletic department approved a multi-million dollar renovation to build and ice rink on campus. The NHL-size rink is set to be finished by the 2019 season.

387 – Not only does St. Kate's have one of the top penalty kills in the country, it also has three of the top goalies in the MIAC this season. The three Wildcat goalies have made a combined 387 saves this season, 209 of which have come against MIAC opponents. Senior goalie Kristen Pechacek (Park Falls, Wis. / Chequamegon) has accounted for 300 of those saves this season, which is the top number in the MIAC.
