Hockey takes on UW-Eau Claire in final game of 2017

ST. PAUL, MINN. – After a week off, the St. Catherine University hockey team is back in action Friday evening. The Wildcats will take on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 7:30 p.m. at Drake Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota in what will be their final game of 2017.

St. Kate's hopes to snap its eight game losing streak against the Blugolds Friday evening, as the team has not won a game since late October. Fans can follow the Wildcats online via live stats, and score updates can also be found on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats).

Here are the five facts to know before this evening's 7:30 p.m. puck drop:

31 – St. Kate's and UW-Eau Claire literally rang in the New Year last season with a New Year's Eve Day game in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The Blugolds, then nationally ranked, beat the Wildcats 3-1 thanks to goals from Courtney Wittig, Sydney Schneider and Lauren Norgern. Laken Muller (Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Simley) scored St. Kate's lone goal of the game.

108 – The Wildcat goalies have been nothing short of spectacular this season, as they are second in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) in overall saves (294) and lead the league in saves versus MIAC opponents (209). In the second period alone, St. Kate's goalies Kristen Pechacek (Park Falls, Wis. / Chequamegon) and Bryce Boreen (Cottage Grove, Minn. / Park-Cottage Grove) have tallied 108 saves and faced 119 shots.

265 – The majority of those 294 saves have been made by Pechacek, who currently leads the MIAC in overall saves (265) and saves versus MIAC opponents (180). The senior goalie also ranks in the top five in the MIAC in save percentage (.923) and minutes (474:30).

10 – UW-Eau Claire is no stranger to the national spotlight, as the Blugolds have been nationally ranked this season. Although the team was left out of the most recent national ranking after a 1-1 draw with St. Norbert College, UW-Eau Claire has been ranked as high as No. 10 this 2017-18 season.

5 – The Wildcats will be the fifth MIAC team the Blugolds have challenged this year. In the previous four games, UW-Eau Claire has compiled a 3-0-1 record against MIAC opponents, with wins over Saint Ben's, Concordia and Saint Mary's. The Blugolds also drew a 2-2 tie against Gustavus, which has also spent the majority of 2017-18 ranked in the top-10.
