Here is a special edition of the five facts to know before the playoff game:
4th – Thanks to losses from both Saint Ben's and Gustavus on Saturday, the Wildcats finished the season in a tie for fourth place in the MIAC standings. However, due to tiebreakers and a loss to the Blazers earlier in the season, St. Kate's received the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament. Saint Ben's is the No. 4 seed.
3rd – This is the third consecutive season the Wildcats have qualified for the MIAC tournament. St. Kate's made the conference tournament for the first time in program history in 2015 as the No. 6 seed before earning the No. 4 seed in 2016.
1 – The Wildcats gave up just one goal in their first meeting with the Blazers this season. Unfortunately, St. Kate's was unable to score a goal of its own in 90 minutes of play, as Saint Ben's won by the final score of 1-0.
Tayler Koop (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) made six saves in the game, while
Kaitlin Machovec (Woodbury, Minn. / North St. Paul) led the team with seven shots.
6 – Sophomore forward
Allie Bird (Maple Grove, Minn. / Maple Grove) was outstanding in games against MIAC opponents this season. Of the seven points she tallied in 2017, six of them were against MIAC opponents, and Bird scored both her goals in conference play this season. Bird ended the season ranked in the top-10 in goals (2) and points (6) versus conference opponents.
9 – Nine different student-athletes scored for St. Kate's this season, making the team one of the most versatile in the MIAC. Maddie Conners (Lake Elmo, Minn. / Hill-Murray) led the team in goals (5) and points (11) during the regular season, while Machovec was second in both categories (4/10). Center back
Shannon Hickey (Eden Prairie, Minn. / Visitation) and wide back
