CHICAGO, Ill. -- The St. Catherine University soccer team ended their remarkable season in the NCAA Women's Soccer First Round falling to Wisconsin La Crosse 4-0. The Wildcats finish the season with an overall record of 17-4 marking the most wins in program history.
The opening 45 minutes showcased strong defensive organization from the Wildcats, holding the Eagles scoreless despite sustained pressure. Goalkeeper
Brianna Valdez had a standout half with four saves while St. Kate's generated attacking moments of its own, recording six first-half shots.
Bella Meier,
Emily Olson, and
Lydia Benson each pressured the La Crosse goalkeeper, and the Wildcats earned a corner in the 8th minute as momentum began to build.
The second half shifted as the Eagles capitalized on chances and broke through in the 58th minute when Anya Carrillo scored off a setup from Monica Wawrzyn. The Eagles extended their lead with three additional goals in the final 15 minutes.
Despite surrendering four goals, Valdez remained composed and resilient, finishing the day with five saves. Offensively, St. Catherine totaled 13 shots, including five on frame.
Natalie Pfleger, Meier, and
Ayah Makled continued to push late, with the Wildcats earning multiple final-minute corners while searching for a breakthrough.
