ST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University hockey team continued to play well against their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponents last weekend. In their Friday night game against Hamline University, the Wildcats beat the Pipers 1-0 Friday for their fourth win in five games. However, St. Kate's hit a bit of a speed bump on Saturday, falling to Hamline 2-1 for their first loss since late January.
The Wildcats hope to bounce back in their final series of the season against Saint Mary's University. Here are the five important facts to know before the series gets underway:
5 – Number of seniors on St. Kate's roster this season.
Annie Buttermore (Grant, Minn. / Mahtomedi),
Randi Fabsits (Tinley Park, Ill. / Victor J. Andrew),
Laurel Prodahl (Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo),
Mallory Ryan (Cottage Grove, Minn. / Park) and Zoe Vekerke (Menominee, Mich. / Menominee) will be honored Saturday afternoon and are playing in the final hockey games of their careers this weekend. The five seniors have compiled an overall record of 36-86-14 and went 27-33-10 in conference play. They also made the MIAC playoffs when they were freshman in 2012-13.
40 – Number of saves
Kristen Pechacek (Park Falls, Wis. / Chequamegon) made in the Wildcats 1-0 shutout of Hamline on Friday. The sophomore goalie stopped every shot she faced to earn her second shutout win of the year. Pechacek recorded one other shutout early in the season, when the team record a 0-0 tie against UW-Eau Claire.
34 – Number of times St. Kate's and Saint Mary's have played each other throughout their programs' histories. The Wildcats have compiled an 11-18-5 record against the Cardinals all-time and are hoping to add two more games to the win column after this weekend.
4 – Number of goals the St. Kate's scored against Saint Mary's last season. The Cardinals were one of the first conference foes the Wildcats faced last season, and they split the series against a Saint Mary's team that finished fourth in the MIAC. St. Kate's won the first game 2-1 at home before losing to the Cardinals on the road 3-2.
113 – Number of miles between Saint Mary's and St. Kate's campuses. Between Friday and Saturday, both the Cardinals and the Wildcats will travel a combined 339 miles over six hours. St. Kate's will be the first team to travel, as they head down to Winona on Friday for their final road game of the season. Both
