Wildcats pick up sweep of Huston-Tillotson on day three of spring break trip

After losing two of its last three games, the St. Catherine University softball team hoped to start another winning streak with a new oppotunity for two wins against NAIA Huston-Tillotson University. Thanks to another solid day at the plate, the Wildcats were able to extend their winning streak to three-straight with 11-3 and 14-5 decisions over Huston-Tillotson Tuesday afternoon in Austin, Texas.

In the opening game, the Wildcats scored 11 runs on nine hits and received a solid pitching performance from Kailee Berquam (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo). The first-year earned her third win of the season as she allowed just one earned run on four hits in five innings of work for the Wildcats. She also struck out seven Ram batters in the process.

At the plate, Donielle Kurvers (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) had one of her best performances of the season so far going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored. She gave the Wildcats a 5-0 lead in the second inning when doubled to bring Robyn Rohr (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) and Caity DeWitt (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi) home and added to the Wildcat lead in the fourth and fifth innings with RBI singles.

Michaela Thielfoldt (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) also had a solid outing in game one with two hits and two runs scored. Rohr and DeWitt each finished the game with two runs a piece.

In game two, Krista Flugstad (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) earned her fifth win of the season on the mound for the Wildcats as she allowed four earned runs and struck out three Rams. At the plate, Flugstad collected two hits and scored one run to add to the Wildcats' dominant offense.

Rohr led the Wildcats in the second win going 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored, while Michaela Bruns (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) hit two doubles in her three at bats for three RBI.

Kurvers and Ashley Sis (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo) each went 2-for-4 at the plate with Kurvers crossing home three times and Sis driving in two runs for the Wildcats. Claire Woebke (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) also collected two RBI and one hit.

In the Wildcats' 10-run second inning, Jessi Tyminski (Champlin, Minn./Totino-Grace) recorded her first home run of her senior season driving in three runs to add to the team lead. She finished the day with a pair of hits and two runs scored.

With the wins, the Wildcats improved to 13-3 on the season. They are scheduled to wrap up spring break play Wednesday with two neutral site games against Howard Payne Unviersity in Austin, Texas, on the campus of St. Edwards University.
