Wildcats end spring break with sweep of Howard Payne

After opening spring break with two-consecutive losses that ended a program-best 10-game winning streak, the St. Catherine University softball team rebounded with three-straight wins and had a chance to close out its trip with a five-game streak before returning home for Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play next week. And that's just what the Wildcats did as they swept Division III Howard Payne University with 11-3 and 8-6 wins Wednesday afternoon in Pflugerville, Texas. 

Krista Flugstad (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson finished her impressive spring trip with two wins Wednesday and a combined 15 strikeouts on the mound against the Yellow Jackets to improve to 7-2 this season. She also collect a hit and a RBI in the game one victory. 

At the plate, Ashley Sis (Brooklyn, Park, Minn./Osseo) led the Wildcats with three hits in game two and a team-best four hits on the day. She collected a double in each contest and two singles in the second with a combined two RBI and three runs scored between both wins. 

Kylie Macziewski (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) also had a solid outing collecting a double in each win and three hits total on the day. She also drove in two runs and scored three of her own. Robyn Rohr (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) and Jessi Tyminski (Champlin, Minn./Totino-Grace) each had three hits on the day with Rohr picking up three RBI and one run scored, while Tyminski added one RBI, one run and a walk. 

In game two, Bethany Del Real (Los Angeles, Calif./John Marshall) hit two singles and had an RBI. Donielle Kurvers (Monticello, Minn./Monticello), Claire Woebke (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson), Caity DeWitt (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi) and Michaela Bruns (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) each added a hit on the day and combined for a total of six runs, six RBI and five walks.

With the wins, the Wildcats improve to 15-3 on the season. They are set to face St. Olaf College next Tuesday, April 7 for a MIAC doubleheader at home beginning at 3:30 p.m.
