Box Score After clinching a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) playoff spot last weekend against St. Olaf College, a lot was on the line in the final week of the regular season for the St. Catherine University hockey team as it faced Concordia College. With a series sweep, the Wildcats could clinch the No. 4 seed with the privilege of hosting a playoff game.
Unfortunately, that fate wasn't in the cards for the Wildcats as the Cobbers had other plans and took the No. 4 seed defeating the Wildcats 3-0 Friday night in Moorhead, Minn.
"We did not play a good clean game," said Head Coach
Brad Marshall. "Our first period started good, then fell apart. Everything was shakey after that. We weren't clicking at all."
After matching the Cobbers in shots for the early minutes of the game, the Wildcats couldn't sustain their momentum and allowed the Cobbers to score two goals within the same minute at 5:50 and 6:35 off the sticks of Bri Flynn and Abby Taffe. The Wildcats skated to a scoreless second, but allowed the Cobbers one more in the third.
Madison Denny kicked out all 23 of the Wildcats' saves, while
Alex Hall (Burnsville, Minn.) had an impressive outing in net for the Wildcats with 32 saves. The Wildcats also had three power play opportunities but came up empty.
Megan Killmer (Savage, Minn.) led the Wildcats with four shots on goal, while
Mallory Ryan (Cottage Grove, Minn.),
Randi Fabsits (Tinley Park, Minn.) and
Kira Kuntz (Dickinson, N.D.) each had three.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 8-8-1 in the conference and will be the No. 5 seed in the MIAC playoffs next weekend. The two-game weekend series with the Cobbers will conclude tomorrow in Moorhead at 2 p.m.
