Wildcats held scoreless in 2-0 loss to St. Thomas

Alex Hall had 39 saves against St. Thomas Saturday
Box Score After struggling to find a way to keep the high-powered offense of the University of St. Thomas quiet Friday evening, the St. Catherine University hockey team hoped to find a way to slow down its opponent and come up with an always important Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win. Despite a remarkable 39-save effort from goalie Alex Hall (Burnsville, Minn.), the Wildcats couldn't find a way to score in falling 2-0 to the Tommies Saturday afternoon at Drake Arena in St. Paul.

"At least we had some jump and energy tonight," said Head Coach Brad Marshall."The goal production and offense was still lacking, but I think St. Thomas had a lot to do with that. They're one of the faster and more skilled teams we have played so far this season."

The quick-scoring Tommies repeated Friday night's opening period as they got on the board early when Megan Juricko scored an unassisted goal just 2:52 into the period. The Wildcats would then hold the Tommies scoreless until the final minute of the game when Paige Baldwin recorded her third goal of the weekend on an empty-net opportunity.

Despite cutting the Tommie scoring in half from Friday's total, the Wildcats managed just 19 shots on goal and couldn't find a way to score on Alise Riedel – the league's save percentage leader who boasts nine wins and no losses in net this season for the Tommies. The Wildcats also failed to convert on all four of their power play opportunities.

Hall's 39 saves were the second most for the senior in net this season for the Wildcats. Megan Killmer (Savage, Minn.) led the team with four shots on goal, while five others had two a piece.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 4-3-1 in the MIAC, but remain in fourth-place in the standings with nine points. The Wildcats return to action next Friday against a College of Saint Benedict team that boasts just one MIAC win this season. Puck drop is scheudled for 7:30 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minn., while Saturday's matchup will start at 2 p.m. at Drake Arena.
