After a long break from practice and competition for the holidays, the St. Catherine University hockey team faced a tough College of St. Scholastica squad to open up the second half of the 2012-13 season.

Despite a dominant second period, the Wildcats were unable to come up with a win as the Saints used an early third-period goal to hand the young Wildcats a 2-1 non-conference setback Saturday afternoon at Drake Arena.

The Wildcats got off to a sluggish start as they allowed 10 shots on goal and a goal from the Saints' Jordan Klimek at the 15:47 mark to put St. Catherine down 1-0.

After being outshot 10-4 in the first, the Wildcats managed to put up 12 shots in the second as they controlled most of play throughout.

Becky Clifton (Imperial, Mo.) gave the Wildcats some life as she slipped a puck past Tereysa White with four minutes to play in the second.

Unfortunately, the Saints would put the game away as Michelle Fischer beat Wildcat goaltender Samantha Geissler (Elk River, Minn.) just four minutes into the third period on a pass from Gina Dodge.

Geissler kept the Wildcats in the game with a spectacular 25-save performance. Kasey Evans (Burnsville, Minn.) led the Wildcat effort with five shots on goal, while Nicki Mosbeck (Emo, Ontario) had four shots and Bailey Rasmussen (Grand Rapids, Minn.) had three.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 7-4-0 on the season, but have a chance at revenge next week. The Wildcats will take two days off before heading to Duluth, Minn., to take on the Saints in another tough non-conference matchup Tuesday evening. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
