Box Score
Coming off a big 4-2 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) victory over the College of Saint Benedict Saturday, the St. Catherine University hockey team faced a tough challenge of taking on a No. 7 UW-Superior squad just three days later in a non-conference contest.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the challenge was too much for them to overcome as the Yellow Jackets used two power play goals to hand the Wildcats a 4-1 loss, Tuesday evening at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.

“They're a top-10 team,” said Head Coach Brad Marshall, “and when you give them the freedom to move and win battles like we did, they will make it count.”

The Yellow Jackets made their chances count as they went 2-for-5 on the power play and threw 41 shots at Wildcat goaltender Alex Hall (Burnsville, Minn.), who made 37 saves in what was just her first loss of the 2012-13 season.

UW-Superior came out firing on all cylinders, recording 12 shots on goal in the first period. Kiara De Kezel scored an early power play goal to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.

Haley Olmstead scored just over eight minutes into the second period to give the Yellow Jackets a two-goal lead  and 26-11 shot advantage heading into the third.

Dani Schultz pushed the UW-Superior lead to 3-0 with a power play goal at the 5:33 mark of the third , but the Wildcats showed some fight as Megan Killmer (Savage, Minn.) buried a loose puck from a Katie Jirik (Northfield, Minn) shot to cut the lead to just two with 12:30 to play.

The Yellow Jackets would answer back less than two minutes later as Bailey Lane scored to put a Wildcat comeback out of reach.

Killmer led the Wildcats with a goal, six shots and finished the evening at plus-one. Kasey Evans (Burnsville, Minn.) also recorded an assist on Killmer's goal, while Becky Clifton (Impreial, Mo.) and Randi Fabsits (Tinley Park, Ill.) each had three shots on goal.

With the loss the Wildcats fall to 5-3 on the season and return to non-conference action this weekend for a two-game home series against Finlandia University at Drake Arena. Friday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m., and Saturday's contest begins at 2 p.m.
