After dropping a heartbreaking five-set match to Bethel University just five days ago, the St. Catherine University volleyball looked to get back on track against Gustavus Adolphus College in the teams' second-to-last Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contest of the 2012 season.

Unfortunately, a win didn't appear to be in the cards for the Wildcats as they fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-19) at the Butler Center, Wednesday evening.

In the first set, the Wildcats managed to overcome a five-point deficit after going down early in the match, but couldn't find a way to comeback as Gustavus took the first 25-22.

The Wildcats built up  momentum in the second and jumped out to an early 10-5 lead and kept the Gusties out of striking distance. However, Gustavus found a way to crawl back and scored five-straight points to even the set at 20-20 before pulling off the come-from-behind set win.

From that point, the Gusties never looked back as they took a 16-4 lead before taking the third set 25-19 to hold off a Wildcat comeback.

Despite the loss, several players shined for the Wildcats, including right side hitter Zoe Peterson (Rosemount, Minn.) who had a team-high nine kills and hit .231 against the Gusties. Peterson also chipped in one dig and one block assist in her best performance of the season.

Senior Stephanie Meschke (Fairbault, Minn.) also finished the evening with nine kills. She had two of the team's four service aces, chipped in six digs and helped on one of the team's three blocks.

Marie O'Neil (St. Michael, Minn.) turned in a .333 hitting percentage with four kills on just nine attempts and only one error. The senior middle also led the team blocking with one solo and one block assist.

Senior libero Nicole Pothen (Faribault, Minn.) had another strong evening for the Wildcats as she recorded a match-high 22 digs. She even contributed offensively, knocking down one kill and a service ace. Ashley Kahlow (Le Sueur, Minn.) was the most productive setter on the floor as she tallied a match-high 17 assists.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 3-7 in MIAC play and 13-17 overall. The Wildcats close out their conference season against Macalester College on senior night, Friday. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m., at the Butler Center.
