SAINT PAUL, Minn. — The St. Catherine volleyball team battled through momentum swings and pressure moments to outlast Augsburg in five sets on Friday evening securing a key MIAC victory to improve to 9–15 overall and 5–4 in conference play.
The Wildcats came out sharp, hitting .303 in a dominant first set behind early kills from
Madison Fagan and
Emily Bredman. After Augsburg responded to take the next two sets, St. Kate's regrouped to grind out a 25–23 win in the fourth, then sealed the match with a decisive .400 hitting performance in the fifth.
Five Wildcats recorded six or more kills, led by
Marta Haugen's 13 and Fagan's 10. Bredman added eight kills and six blocks, while
Liz Rosen notched nine kills and a team-high 24 digs.
Mallory Johnson chipped in six kills, and
Emma Nordeen contributed six with four blocks in key moments.
Setters
Addison Preuss and
Jalyn Wolle shared the offense, combining for 47 assists and four aces. Preuss finished with 25 assists and a .500 attack percentage, while Wolle posted 22 assists, 13 digs, and two service aces.
The Wildcat defense held Augsburg to just a .048 hitting percentage. Alongside Rosen's 24 digs,
Maddie Newton and
Alexa Carlstrom anchored the back row with 13 and 11 digs respectively. St. Kate's totaled 11 team blocks, highlighted by Bredman's six and Fagan's five.
After trailing 2–1 in sets, St. Kate's rallied behind back-to-back kills from Haugen and Bredman to claim the fourth set. In the decisive fifth, the Wildcats jumped ahead 6–2 on a service ace from Preuss and never looked back, closing the match on a Haugen kill to ignite the home crowd.
The Wildcats will host Carleton College on Saturday, November 1 at 5 pm for Senior Day honoring Bredman, Fagan, Johnson and Rosen. They close out the regular season on November 7 at Bethel University.
