St. Kate's found themselves trying to dig out of a hole from the first period on Saturday at St. Norbert. The Green Knights scored first midway through the period on an even strength goal. The Wildcats would answer some four and a half minutes later on a power play goal by
Kayla Clafton. Unfortunately, St. Norbert would net the next three straight to take a 4-1 lead. St. Kate's would add another late goal by
Kelsey Abrahamson, ending the first period 4-2.
Abrahamson would add two more goals in the second period to complete her first hat-trick of the season and narrow the lead in the process. The Green Knights would add one goal in the second, bringing the score to 5-4.
The third period started out with more of the same from
Kelsey Abrahamson, when she added a short-handed, game tying goal at 5:36. St. Norbert would prove too much as they scored the final two goals of the period, and locking up the 8-6 win.
Head Coach Marshall was pleased with the performance despite the loss. "When you put that many shots on net, you should have 4 or 5 goals. We missed some really good chances to even up the score a couple of times. I thought some of our older players stepped up their play today. Two games within 24 hours on the road is tough, but the girls played hard today."
