Wildcats complete weekend sweep with 4-1 victory over Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The St. Catherine University women's hockey team continued its strong start to the 2026-27 season Saturday afternoon, defeating Lake Forest College 4-1 to complete a weekend sweep of the Foresters. The Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the season behind a balanced offensive performance, a three-point outing from Ana Myers, and 21 saves from goaltender Casey Stockbridge.

St. Catherine controlled much of the afternoon, outshooting Lake Forest 49-22, including a dominant 26-12 advantage in the second period. Four different Wildcats found the back of the net in the victory.

The Wildcats opened the scoring late in the first period when Michelle Smith netted her first goal of the season at the 17:13 mark, with Myers picking up the assist. St. Catherine carried the 1-0 advantage into the first intermission.

St. Kate's extended its lead early in the second period as Alexandra Polasik scored at 6:28, assisted by Jaden Kozak and Kendra Bogen. The goal would stand as the game-winner. Lake Forest answered at 13:24 when Sophie Smith scored to cut the Wildcats' lead to 2-1 heading into the final period.

The Wildcats wasted little time regaining momentum in the third period. Just 52 seconds into the frame, Kendra Bogen scored off an assist from Myers to restore the two-goal advantage. St. Catherine continued to pressure the Foresters throughout the final 20 minutes before Myers capped the scoring with an unassisted empty-net goal at 17:58, securing the 4-1 victory.

Myers led the Wildcats offensively with a goal and two assists for three points while recording a game-high 12 shots on goal. Kendra Bogen added a goal and an assist, while Smith and Polasik each contributed a goal. Rhiannon Ashworth registered seven shots, and Samantha Bogen added five.

In net, Casey Stockbridge earned the win with 21 saves, allowing just one goal in 60 minutes of action. The Wildcats also delivered a strong defensive performance, successfully killing all four Lake Forest power-play opportunities.

St. Catherine finished the contest with a 31-25 advantage in faceoffs and held the Foresters to just four shots on goal in the final period.

The Wildcats open the home season hosting a non-conference series with Wisconsin-Stevens Point Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7.
