In a game riddled with penalties (19 in all), Concordia was just too much as the Wildcats drop a conference game Saturday night 1-3.
The Cobbers scored the only goal in the first period, an even strength goal by Abby Taffe at 18:53. Concordia out shot the Wildcats 16-7 in the opening period.
The second period was all St. Kate's. The Wildcats controlled the puck the majority of the time and had a number of scoring chances. SCU got on the board at 9:20 in the second period on a
Nicki Mosbeck power play goal, assisted by
Ashley Tilton and
Meghan Lange.
The game was decided at 13:58 in the third period on an even strength goal by Concordia's Kit Holloway. St. Kate's tried to mount a comeback. They pulled the goalie with less than two minutes remaining, but their efforts were thwarted. Concordia poked the puck free at center ice and scored on an empty net with just six seconds remaining.
The two teams face off again Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in Ridder Arena.
