It didn't take the Wildcats long to get on the board Saturday evening at Augsburg, finding the net at the 19:13 mark as
Megan Killmer scored on assist from
Kayla Clafton and
Kelsey Abrahamson. The goal came on a power play after Augsburg's Nicole Gorr was called for roughing.
St. Kate's scored first in the second period as well on an even strength goal, again by
Megan Killmer. This time assisted by
Shelby Salmonsen and
Kasey Evans. Augsburg would get on the board just over three minutes later on a power play goal after an interference call on St. Kate's. After two periods, the Wildcats were up 2-1.
The third period scoring began once again with St. Kate's as
Kallie Geissler netted the first goal of her career on assist from
Kayla Clafton and
Kelsey Abrahamson, which ended up being the game winner for the Wildcats. The team's second power play goal of the night came after Augsburg was called for roughing. The Auggies would score again shortly thereafter, but it was too little, too late for Augsburg.
Cassie Rooney would add an unassisted short-handed goal for good measure to bring the final tally to 4-2, Wildcats.
Head Coach Brad Marshal said of the effort, "It was nice to see the girls respond the way they did. We challenged them to play more as a team and they did. Our leaders picked their games up tonight and the younger girls followed them.
Megan Killmer,
Kelsey Abrahamson and
Cassie Rooney had a solid performance tonight."
St Kate's improves to 3-1 overall (1-1 MIAC), while Augsburg falls to 2-1-1 overall (1-1 MIAC). The Wildcats face off next on Friday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m. in Mariucci Arena as they take on St. Mary's in another conference match up.
