Hockey falls to St. Scholastica on the road

DULUTH, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team traveled to Duluth for game one of the MIAC series with the College of St. Scholastica Saints on Friday at Mars Lakeview Arena. St. Kate's was defeated 5-1 by the Saints putting their record at 5-18-1 with an MIAC record of 3-14. 

The game was 2-0 after the first period in favor of the Saints with the Wildcats cutting the lead in half two minutes into the second frame. Rookie Ana Myers scored her 18th goal of the season off an assist from first-year Aubree McDonagh, which is her fifth this year and third in the last four games. 

The Saints answered with two more goals in the second period taking a 4-1 advantage into the final 20 minutes. St. Kate's held them off until the final three minutes as they sealed the victory with their fifth and final goal. 

St. Kate's out shot the Saints on Friday as their goalie made 34 saves. Raechel Painovich led with seven shots on net and also led defensively with three blocked shots tying rookie Paige Fasching who also had three blocks. 

First-year goalkeeper Addie Oettinger faced 31 shots making 26 saves in 60 minutes in net. 

St. Catherine will close out the 2024-25 season on Saturday hosting the Saints on Senior Day. The final series is scheduled for 2 pm at Drake Arena in St. Paul.
