ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team concluded the 2024-25 season on Saturday afternoon while honoring graduating senior
Madi Schwengler. The Wildcats hosted the College of St. Scholastica at Drake Arena ending the conference match up tied 4-4 before going into five rounds of a shootout. St. Kate's ends the season 5-18-2 with a MIAC record of 3-14-1.
The Saints got the best of St. Kate's adding their first goal in the first minute of play.
Ana Myers answered with her 19th goal of the season with help from
Halle Dunleavy 40 seconds later. St. Scholastica struck again with less than five to play but senior
Madi Schwengler adding the her second goal of the season to knot it at 2-2 after one. Schwengler had help from
Aubree McDonagh and
Ellie Skaja in the last minute of the period.
Samantha Bogen scored her third goal of the season giving St. Kate's the lead at 4:48 in the second off a pass from McDonagh and
Lilly Gillespie. The Wildcats held the Saints off until the last three minutes of the period as they tied the game for the third time.
St. Scholastica added their fourth goal halfway through the third period taking a 4-3 lead until Schwengler struck again assisted by Gillespie. After a scoreless five minute overtime, the conference game went to the best of three shootout with the Saints coming out victorious in the fifth round.
Ana Myers had five shots on goal finishing plus two on the day.
Anna Friendshuh appeared in net for the first two periods making 13 saves while
Lea Grassia finished the game facing eleven shots and appearing in net for the shootout.
