Soccer returns to MIAC Championship hosting Carleton Saturday

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University soccer team will return to the Minnesota Intercollagiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championship game for the fifth consecutive season after defeating the No. 4 seed Augsburg University Auggies 2-1 in the playoff semifinals on Thursday afternoon. The win improves St. Kate's to 17-2 overall with the program's best record in history.

Senior Bella Meier opened the scoring early, burying her 10th goal of the year in the ninth minute to give the Wildcats the early advantage. St. Kate's continued to press throughout the first half, outshooting Augsburg 6–1 before the break.

After halftime, Natalie Pfleger doubled the lead in the 51st minute, finishing off a setup from Maren Schoeberl for her ninth goal of the season. Augsburg got one back 10 minutes later on a strike from Allison Hookom, assisted by Phoebe Alva Rosa, but the Wildcats' back line held firm the rest of the way.

Goalkeeper Brianna Valdez picked up the win in net, making one second-half save as St. Kate's limited the Augsburg to just five shots on the day.

The Wildcats will host the No. 2 seed Carleton College Knights on Saturday, November 8 for the MIAC Playoff title. The last time the two faced in the championship match was in 2023 in Northfield with the Wildcats taking the victory 1-0 and also in 2022 with St. Kate's again winning 1-0.

The 2025 championship game is scheduled for 1:00 pm at home. The MIAC Playoff Champion will receive the postseason championship trophy and the conference's automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
