ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team added another win on the season rolling to a MIAC sweep over the Augsburg University Auggies on Wednesday evening at Butler Center. The team's fifth MIAC sweep improves them to 18-6 overall with a 14-5 conference record.
From the opening tip-off, it was clear that both teams were determined to leave everything on the court. The first quarter saw back-and-forth action, with neither team able to establish a significant lead. Augsburg aggressive defense kept St. Kate's offense in check, holding the Wildcats down to a halftime score of 31-26.
The second half brought even more intensity, St. Kate's rallied back to knot the game at 44-44. As the game entered its final quarter, the tension in the arena reached a fever pitch. With the score tied and ten minutes remaining on the clock, the Wildcats posted their best quarter of the game outscoring Augsburg by nine.
Rookie Hattie Fox added 15 points with four rebounds while going 6-6 from the free throw line. Junior Sydney Elliott followed with eleven points off the bench going 3-5 from behind the arc while Kaylee Miron had ten points with four rebounds. Karis Zezza and Emme Golembiewski added seven rebounds each while Zezza scored eight to Golembiewski's five.
The Wildcats have one regular season road game remaining as they travel to the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, February 17 at 1 pm. St. Kate's will return to Butler Center for the team's first-ever MIAC playoff home game on Tuesday, February 20 at 7 pm hosting the No. 6 seed.
