ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team continued the win steak with a five-set win over Macalester College on Saturday evening. The MIAC win improves St. Kate's to 4-1 in conference play sitting in third with an overall record of 14-7.
Lexie Petrick tallied her ninth double double the the season and fifth consecutive with 15 kills and 33 digs.
Liz Rosen also tallied a double double with 15 kills and 15 doubles along with three aces.
Madison Fagan recorded eleven kills and a career best nine blocks.
In the first set, both teams exchanged points with key kills from Petrick but errors also impacted both sides of the net. St. Kate's gained a brief lead with kills form Rosen and Claudia Schimelwski but the Scots turned it around late taking the set 26-24.
Macalester took an early lead before St. Kate's fought back with blocks from Chmiewleski and
Mallory Johnson, leveling the score several times. Ultimately, St. Kat'es edged ahead 25-23 to win set two tying the match at 1-1.
The Scots took set three 25-23 before the Wildcats claimed the fourth set 25-19. St. Kate's started the fourth set off strong as Johnson and Chmielweski blocked the Scots momentum. Fagan helped the Wildcats secure the set over the Scots adding four blocks.
In the final set, the Wildcats and Scots showed a back and forth battle. St. Kate's capitalized on attack errors from Macalester before the Scots remained resilient inching back late. St. Kate's pulled ahead though with a final block from Fagan and Erickson sealing the win 3-2.
St. Kate's will travel to St. Olaf College on October 16 returning to Butler Center on October 25 to host Bethel University.
