ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team improved to 3-1 in conference play taking down the visiting Concordia College Cobbers on Friday evening at Butler Center. The 3-0 sweep advances St. Kate's to an overall 13-7 record setting the win streak to four in a row.
Junior
Liz Rosen led the Wildcats with a career high 13 kills for her third double double of the season as she contributed eleven digs. On top of two aces and a block,
Lexie Petrick recorded another double double with eleven kills and 14 digs while
Madison Fagan followed with eleven kills. Defensively,
Brenna Essig posted a match high 16 digs to surpass the 300 digs mark already this season.
The Wildcats controlled the momentum throughout the match taking set one 25-16, set two 25-19, and sealed the win 25-16 in set three. Things started slow in set one with the score tying six times right away before the Wildcats took the lead at 9-8 and didn't look back.
Set two was nearly the same start with the lead changing twice and tying three times. The Cobbers inched back to get within two late in the set but St. Kate's rallied to take the 2-0 match lead.
In the final set, the Wildcats gained the lead early finding themselves with an eight point lead at 16-8. Concordia was riddled with errors though late in the set with St. Kate's sealing their first 3-0 conference match sweep of the season.
The Wildcats travel to face the Scots of Macalester College on Saturday evening. The conference match is set for 5 pm at the Leonard Center in St. Paul.
