STORM LAKE, IOWA -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team improved to 9-4 overall as they defeated the Buena Vista University Beavers in three sets.
In the opening set, the Wildcats were out to an early 10-3 lead but the Beavers inched back taking a 14-13 lead. St. Kate's went on back to back rallies getting within two points of clinching the first set but Buena Vista wasn't ready to give up the set. After three more lead changes, the set went in favor of St. Kate's 28-26.
Set two went back and forth again with St. Kate's getting out on top 18-13 before getting a two set advantage winning 25-19. The Beavers pushed through set three not ready to let the Wildcats earn the sweep. The two teams knotted up the set 13 times including five lead changes but the Wildcats came out on top again taking the non-conference match 25-23.
Maggie Rosen and
Lexie Petrick each had nine kills in the match with Rosen hitting an outstanding .444 and Petrick hitting a .348. Rosen also recorded three blocks, including two solo.
Madison Fagan also contributed nine kills in the match while
Claire Segner led defensively with 18 digs while Petrick posted 15.
The Wildcats travel to Moorhead, Minnesota next Friday facing Concordia College at 7 pm. They will return home on Saturday, October 7 to host Macalester College at 5 pm.
