Claremont, Calif. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team secured their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory against Pomona-Pitzer on Friday afternoon. The Wildcats are in Southern California competing in the Pacific Coast Open with three matches over two days.
"This was a great match to start our season.", said Nelson. We were chllenges by a very good team and we responded by staying together throughout the match. We learned a lot about our team and was really proud of how we played."
St. Kate's opened the match claiming set one 25-23 and set two 25-21 before falling in the next two sets to force a definitive fifth set, which they claimed 15-6.
Tiffany Tellez led in kills for the Wildcats posting 15 while hitting .314.
Emily Bredman had a great start to her sophomore season with seven kills, five blocks while hitting a team best .467.
Defensively,
Lexie Petrick and
Claire Segner paced the Wildcats with a combined 40 digs while Tellez added 10 for a double-double.
