ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team earned a 3-1 non-conference victory over University of Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday evening on their home court inside of Butler Center. St. Kate's improves to 12-6 with the win with one final non-conference match on the schedule.
Sophomore outside hitter,
Mallory Johnson had a career night recording 12 kills hitting .478 leading the Wildcats. Sophomore middle
Madison Fagan added eleven kills and two blocks while senior
Maggie Rosen had ten kills plus one block.
Claire Segner led the match in digs collecting 26 while
Lexie Petrick had 23 and
Tiffany Tellez tallied 22.
The first set was off to a slow start for St. Kate's as both teams traded the lead seven times before taking it 25-20. The momentum picked up quickly in the second set with the Wildcats taking a dominating 25-15 set win to go up 2-0.
UW-Stout was not ready to go home however pressuring St. Kate's in the third set as both teams traded points with the Wildcats giving up a four at 16-12 point lead to fall 30-28. The fourth set was as much of a battle as the third but St. Kate's put on their best performance of the night with 19 kills and hitting .239 as a team to take the set 25-22.
The Wildcats travel to Winona, Minnesota on Friday, October 20 before turning around to play at Bethel University on Saturday, October 21.
