ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine softball team picked up a their first conference sweep of the season over Augsburg University in the Wildcats first series on their home field this season. St. Kate's took the first game 3-1 and claimed game two with a 12-4 victory in 5 innings. St. Kate's improves to 10-8 overall with a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) record of 3-1.
GAME ONE | St. Kate's 3, Augsburg 1
Augsburg added the first run of the day in the top of the first inning and held onto the one-run lead until senior
Annabelle Schutte hit a double to center field to drive in sophomore Kaitlin Boyles to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Senior
Alex Ehde's single in the bottom of the fifth brought in junior
Julia Azure to take the lead and senior
Jasmine Ziegler's double in the bottom of the sixth added the final run bringing Schutte home.
Schutte was two for three in game one with two doubles, one run and one RBI. Junior
Alyssa Montero claimed her fifth win of the season in the circle with nine strikeouts.
GAME TWO | St. Kate's 12, Augsburg 4 (5 innings)
Augsburg opened game two with a two-run inning before the Wildcats added five runs which included a three-run homer from Montero plus runs from senior
Lindsay Burr and fifth-year MiKayla Grant. The Auggies added one run in the second and their final run in the third before the Wildcats posted a seven-run effort in the bottom of the fifth for the win. Sophomore
Erica Pronschinske and Burr were responsible for back-to-back doubles bringing in four runs to close out the game.
Burr was two for four in with two RBI, one run and one double. Boyles was two for three with one RBI, one run, and one double. Schutte started in the circle for the Wildcats claiming the win striking out one. Pronschinske entered the game for the final two innings facing eight batters and recording three strikeouts.
