ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine softball team split wins with the College of Saint Benedict on Friday on Senior Day. The Wildcats claimed game one 5-4 in 9 innings before falling in game two 10-1 to improve to 19-15 overall with a MIAC record of 12-6.
GAME ONE | St. Catherine 5, Saint Benedict 4 (9 innings)
Sophomore Kaitlin Boyles kicked off scoring with a solo homer in the bottom of the second inning. The Wildcats added two more runs in the bottom of the third taking a 3-0 lead until the top of the fifth when the Bennies put up a two-run home run. The Bennies took a one run lead off a triple bringing two in before the Wildcats knotted it up in the bottom of the inning. Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the ninth with
Alex Ehde scoring the winning run off a hit from
Alyssa Montero.
Taylor Brunn was 3 for 5 with one run and one RBI while Ehde hit 2 for 4 with two runs plus a double. Montero was also 2 for 4 with two RBI and claiming the win in the circle collecting six strikeouts.
GAME TWO | Saint Benedict 10, St. Catherine 1 (5 innings)
The Bennies bats were hot in game two putting up five runs partially credit to a grand slam, in the opening inning. The Bennies scored one more in the top of the second inning before Boyles scored the Wildcats lone run of the game. They Bennies went on to score three runs in the top of the third and one more in the fifth for the final.
The Wildcats are scheduled to play at Bethel on Sunday, May 1 with games at 1 and 3 pm. The doubleheader originally scheduled for Saturday, April 30 at home against St. Olaf has been postponed due to inclement weather in the forecast to Monday, May 2 at 3:30 and 5:30 pm.
