ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine softball team played their final regular season doubleheader at home on Monday hosting St. Olaf College. The Wildcats dropped the first game against the Oles and came back in game two with a 7-3 victory. St. Kate's closes out the regular season Tuesday traveling to Bethel for a 3:30 pm doubleheader.
GAME ONE | St. Olaf 3, St. Catherine 1
St. Kate's was on the board first in game one adding a solo run off a double from
Alex Ehde bringing in
Sarah Posey. St. Kate's maintained the lead until the top of the fifth with the Oles getting their first hit of the game and bringing three runs in. Neither team was successful in scoring following the fifth for the final score of 3-1.
Posey was 2 for 4 with one run while
Alex Ehde hit 1 for 4 with one RBI but left of base four times.
Alyssa Montero took the loss in the circle striking out four.
GAME TWO | St. Catherine 7, St. Olaf 3
A late push in the fifth inning gave St. Kate's a 7-3 win over the Oles in game two led by senior MiKayla Grant with a three-run homer. Posey scored St. Kate's first run again in game two in the opening inning brought in by Kaitlin Boyles.
Annabelle Schutte helped the Wildcats add two more in the inning with a single to center field bringing in Ehde and Montero.
The Oles put up two runs in the top of the second inning and knotted the game at 3-3 in the third. St. Kate's took the lead again in the bottom of the fifth with Grant's home run and
Taylor Brunn closed out scoring for the day adding the final run in the top of the sixth.
Posey was 2 for 4 again in game two with one run while Schutte hit 1 for 3 with two RBI and Grant was 1 for 3 with three RBI.
Schutte earned the win in the circle with four strikeouts facing 30 batters.
Going into Tuesday's doubleheader at Bethel, the Wildcats hold down the No. 4 spot in the MIAC clinching another trip to the conference playoffs. St. Kate's will host a first-round playoff game on Thursday at 4:30 pm with the opponent to be determined.
