ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine softball teams' bats were hot again in their doubleheader split with Concordia College on Sunday tallying 20 runs on the day. St. Kate's has four series remaining in the regular season with an overall record of 18-12 and 11-5 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
GAME ONE | St. Kate's 11, Concordia 1 (5 innings)
St. Kate's struck first in the top of the second scoring six runs including back-to-back two-run singles from
Julia Azure and
Alex Ehde. Ehde scored her first home run of the season in the top of the fourth bringing in
Taylor Brunn to give St. Kate's an 8-0 lead and added three more in the top of the fifth.
Brunn was 3 for 4 with two runs and one RBI while Ehde hit 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBI.
Alyssa Montero earned the win in the circle throwing eight strikeouts allowing just one hit and giving up zero runs.
Erica Pronschinske entered the game in the final inning giving up the one run.
GAME TWO | Concordia 11, St. Kate's 9
The Wildcats' second game of the series against the Cobbers was just as eventful as game one as the Cobbers closed out the day with a three-run home run for the win in the bottom of the seventh.
St. Kate's carried the lead through the top of the fourth inning up 4-1 over Concordia. The Cobbers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth before going up one in the bottom of the fifth. The Wildcats added a run in the top of the sixth tying it again this time at 5-5. Concordia scored three in the sixth again taking the lead over St Kate's.
With two outs in the top of the seventh, the Wildcats added four runs to take a 9-8 lead with just three outs remaining in the game. The Cobbers closed out the game with runners on third and first hitting a homer for their first win over the Wildcats in eleven years.
Ehde was 3 for 5 in game two with two RBI and
Annabelle Schutte was 2 for 2 with a double getting walked three times. Schutte played the complete game in the circle with six strikeouts throwing 106 pitches.
The Wildcats host Wartburg College on Wednesday, April 27 in St. Paul with games at 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm. They return to conference play by hosting the College of Saint Benedict on Friday, April 29 at 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm, and close out their regular-season home schedule by hosting St. Olaf on Saturday, April 30 for senior day at 1 and 3 pm.
