Wildcats split with Pipers on Tuesday

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine softball team split wins on Tuesday with the Hamline University Pipers taking game one 6-0 and dropping the second 3-1. The Wildcats are 15-11 on the season with six doubleheaders remaining on the regular season schedule. 

GAME ONE | St. Kate's 6, Hamline 0
A pair of doubles from sophomore Kaitlin Boyles led the Wildcats to a shutout of the Pipers in game one. The runs started in the top of the third with Taylor Brunn scoring first. Boyles first double of the game drove two in before scoring herself to put the Wildcats up 4-0. She brought senior Alex Ehde in in the top of the fifth for another run and the Wildcats sealed the deal in the top of the seventh with Julia Azure stealing home for the final run. 

Boyles hit 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and one run. MiKayla Grant was also 2 for 3 with 1 RBI. 

Alyssa Montero earned the win in the circle improving to 8-4. Montero tallied three strikeouts facing 27 batters. 

GAME TWO | Hamline 3, St. Kate's 1
Montero brought the momentum into game two getting Ehde home in the top of the opening inning. The Wildcats were unable to get home after that giving up two runs in the bottom of the fourth and the final run of the day in the bottom of the fifth. 

Brunn led the WIldcats in game two going four for four followed by Ehde going 1 for 4 with one run. 

Annabelle Schutte claimed the loss with one strikeout in game two. 

St. Kate's travels to Northfield on Thursday, April 21 for a doubleheader against Carleton College with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 pm.
