Wildcats sweep Gusties on the road

MANKATO, Minn. -- The St. Catherine softball team swept the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties on Saturday afternoon posting 12 runs to the Gusties one playing inside of the Mankato Dome. St. Kate's improved to 14-10 with the wins and carries a 7-3 conference record thus far. 

GAME ONE | St. Catherine 6, Gustavus 1
St. Catherine tallied three runs in the third inning with runs from rookie Sarah Posey, junior Julia Azure, and senior Alex Ehde. Junior Alyssa Montero hit her fourth home run of the season leading the conference this season in the top of the sixth inning driving in Ehde who reached first and brought in Posey again. The Gusties put up their lone run of the day in the bottom of the sixth on an error from the Wildcats' pitcher. 

Montero earned the win in the circle allowing just one run off an error while collecting seven strikeouts. 

GAME TWO | St. Catherine 6, Gustavus 0
Game two was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Montero and Ehde combined for the first run of the game. Montero was brought in from senior Lindsay Burr off a single to left field. St. Kate's added one in the top of the sixth off a double to left-center from senior Annabelle Schutte bringing in Ehde. The final three runs of the game were scored in the top of the seventh inning with a double from Ehde to bring in two runs before scoring off Montero reaching first on an error. 

Schutte earned the win in the circle in game two giving up just four hits while striking out three. 

The Wildcats travel to Hamline University on Tuesday, April 19 with a doubleheader scheduled for 3:30 and 5:30 pm. The Wildcats return home on Saturday, April 23 hosting the College of Saint Benedict at 1 and 3 pm.
